News of the Church Family

Prayer request from our friend Yousaf: Please pray for the families who lost their loved ones in recent attacks on two churches in Youhanabad, Lahore. Seventeen people were killed during the church services, and fifty five got injured. My wife Ruth’s friend Ambreen was among those who died. She was eight month pregnant with her first child, her husband also died in this horrific incident.

There are many known to us who need our prayers for strength and encouragement, even though they may not be named in this newsletter. Let us continue to pray daily for each and every one.

Thank you…

> For the generosity of the church family in raising funds to complete the sum needed to drill a borehole at Ahiru Gaiti School in Maua, Kenya, which I visited with Stanley Gitari last year. The following message has been received from him – “I am so pleased to inform you that finally the driller has been paid 50% of the contract sum and I am expecting the machines any time next week to start drilling water at the school! This will joy and celebration for the children and community. Grace and peace. Stanley” – The access to fresh water will undoubtedly decrease the incidence of disease at the school, provide the means to grow their own vegetables and be a source of income from the sale of water to the local community. Both the school and community will benefit hugely. Thank you, Hazel

Notices

* Reading rota – The new reading rota is on the notice board in oasis, please add your name to the week/s you may be available. Thank you.

* 5 words – To get the views of the wider congregation the stewards invite everyone to have a go at describing NMC in 5 words or less (5 separate words, a couple of phrases or one short sentence). Ask yourself ‘How would you describe NMC?’ What goes on here? ‘What makes NMC different to other places of worship in the area?’, ‘What is special about NMC?’ Write down your 5 words on a piece of paper and hand it to one of the stewards!

* Cake sale – I warmly invite you to my second cake sale on Saturday 28th this month outside the church hall in aid of the Chilean Ministry of Education’s ‘English Opens Doors’ programme. Once again, there will be lots of lovely treats on offer (this time with an Easter theme), made by myself and other members of the church. There are just a few weeks now until I leave for Chile, where I will be volunteering as a full time English Teaching Assistant in a public school for the duration of the academic year. While Chile has come a long way as a developed nation, sadly there does still exist something of a gulf between the rich and poor, so initiatives such as English Opens Doors make all the difference to children from less privileged backgrounds. Every contribution is a big help; I hope you can make it! Wishing you all a happy Easter and a joyful holiday, James

11th/April: The River Thames Sponsored Walk is being held to raise funds to enable Samaritan’s Purse to repair 45 broken wells and dig 5 new ones, so that 20,000 people in Karamoja, Uganda will be able to access clean water from a well near their village instead of the dirty, disease-ridden water that is their only option now. Any amount you raise will be matched Pound for Pound by the UK government – increasing the impact of your generosity and enabling us to save more lives. Samaritan’s Purse is asking for a donation of £5 per adult or £10 for a family or a group of four. 100% of your donation will go towards the Clean Water for Karamoja campaign. Find out more and register today at: www.TurnOnTheTap.org.uk/thames-river-walk/

30th/April: Hillingdon Inter Faith Network invites you to meet and question candidates from the five main parties at a pre-election debate holding at the Northwood & Pinner Liberal Synagogue at 7 for 7.30pm start.
